I have conducted a number of ceremonies at the wonderful GreenAcres, Rainford and it is enchanting, all year around. It is the perfect setting for celebrating the journey through all of life’s milestones.
Of course, the first of life's milestones is birth. A Naming Ceremony is a lovely way of getting the important people in a baby's life together, to formally welcome and celebrate their birth. Very often families choose to hold a Naming Ceremony on, or around, their child's first birthday – yet another milestone to celebrate!
As with all Liverpool Celebrant ceremonies, I will meet with you in person (or via Skype/FaceTime if that is more convenient for you) to discuss the contents of ceremony. You will receive unlimited telephone and email support regarding the ceremony, from me, from time of booking to the day itself, a presentation copy of the script and a commemorative certificate. GreenAcres will arrange the booking and I will work, with you and them, to create the perfect ceremony, for you.
The Woodland Hall holds up to 90 people and the seating, in the photograph below is set out in rows, with a central aisle. However, the team at GreenAcres are happy to arrange the chairs to suit your requirements. Depending on how many guests you will have, a circle, or two rows set in a semicircle can be very effective.
This is a sample Order of Ceremony, but nothing is set in stone, it is just to give you an idea of what it could include:
Assembly of Guests
Welcome & Introduction by Celebrant
Your hopes for the future
Announcing the Name
Personal Promises from Parents
Personal Promises from Supporting Adults
Blending of Sands/Time Capsule
Signing of Commemorative Certificate
Conclusion by Celebrant
I can provide you with a selection of readings, from the traditional to the quirky and of course, you are free to find or write your own.
This poem called Think Like a Tree, written by Karen Shragg, contains wording that would be particularly suitable for including in a ceremony at GreenAcres:
Think Like a Tree
Soak up the sun
Affirm life's magic
Be graceful in the wind
Stand tall after a storm
Feel refreshed after it rains
Grow strong without notice
Be prepared for each season
Provide shelter to strangers
Hang tough through a cold spell
Emerge renewed at the first signs of spring
Stay deeply rooted while reaching for the sky
Be still long enough to
hear your own leaves rustling.
You may wish to include promises from supporting adults, such as Grandparents and/or Guardians. Some people use other names to describe these important people, such as: Guideparents, Mentors, Godparents or Promise Parents. These are just a few of the many terms and just as you choose the people you can, of course, also choose the term that you wish to use.
The promises can be printed, in advance, signed on the day and placed in a Promise Bottle, as a special reminder, for you to keep.
You may want to include a symbolic element such as a blending of the sands. Each of the people making vows or promises has a different colour and they are invited to contribute their sand to help fill a bottle. As the bottle is being filled your Celebrant will explain what is happening, to your guests. Of course, you get to take home the filled bottle as a lasting memento of the day and the promises made.
It is also a lovely idea for each of the guests to add a small token, or a photograph of themselves, to a time capsule or memory box. The box can be sealed during the Naming Ceremony to be opened, in years to come, perhaps on a special birthday.
This is a special day for, and about, your child, you and your family and friends and it is important that you feel it is exactly how you want it to be. The above are only suggestions, if you want something completely different – let’s talk about it and hopefully we can make it happen.

Hi, I am Lorraine Hull, an award-winning Celebrant, based in Liverpool.
I am most usually asked to conduct ceremonies in North-West England and North Wales but I am happy to travel anywhere within the U.K. or abroad.
At the risk of shouting (and sounding extremely cheesy) "I LOVE MY JOB!".
I really love getting to know the couples and families that ask me to be part of their special celebration, whether that is for a Wedding/Civil Partnership, Renewal/Reaffirmation of Vows, Naming/Welcoming, or Celebration of Life/Funeral
I love hearing, writing and telling love and life stories (and also finding out about hopes and dreams - which are the stories of the future!)
I love to create and conduct unique, meaningful, non-religious ceremonies that are perfect for each couple, individual, and/or family.
I love helping to create and celebrate happy and poignant moments, which form memories that will last a lifetime (that also includes the memories that I get to keep too - what's not to love?)
I believe that ALL people (and animals) should all be treated kindly, fairly and with respect.
We are all unique and we all matter. I think for myself and act for others. I advocate anti-racism, the appreciation and celebration of diversity, justice, equity and equality for ALL through everything that I say and do: Love is Love, Family is Family, Life is Life.
You may also like to know that I am accredited by Humanists UK and a recommended LGBTQ+ Equality Weddings supplier. I hold Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance, I adhere to a strict code of conduct and I am committed to developing and sharing best practice with my Independent and Humanist Celebrant colleagues, so that we can all be the best Celebrants that we can possibly be.
